The Italian Job Download Movie Free

Show Spoiler

a5c7b9f00b Charlie's got a 'Job' to do. Having just left prison, he finds one of his friends has attempted a high risk job in Italy right under the nose of the Mafia. Charlie's friend doesn't get very far so Charlie takes over the 'Job'. Using three Mini Coopers, a couple of Jaguars and a bus, he hopes to bring Torino to a standstill, steal the Gold and escape.
Comic caper movie about a plan to steal a gold shipment from the streets of Turin by creating a traffic jam.
I saw the remake of "The Italian Job" years ago and was underwhelmed at the generic heist movie, and put off seeing the original. Luckily I changed my mind and was pleasantly surprised with the 1969 version. The remake takes character names, the idea of a heist in Italy, a traffic jam and Mini Coopers but that's about it.

The original has those elements, of course, but it is a wonderfully zany caper flick steeped in the late 1960s Swinging London, where our hero's natural first stop when getting out of prison is to visit his tailor to catch up on the latest fashions. Fitting in well with this silly depiction of a brief trend in pop culture is the wildly unrealistic, but immensely fun, portrayal of the London crime scenea surprisingly campy organization.

Okay, so the original is no more a realistic depiction of a major robbery than the sequel, but it's a whole lot more fun. Michael Caine, Noel Coward and no less than Benny Hill headline the cast in this movie about fashionable criminals stealing a bunch of shiny stuff from the Italian government, complicated by no less than the mafia. Aside from the breezy campy vibe that seems to have made the movie a cult classic in England, the movie's other signature is its amazing stunt driving scenes in its second half. These are great and to must be seen by anyone who likes a good car chase.

Campy and fun, what more could you ask for? This one's worth a rental or (legal) download.
No, no, not the new one from four years ago with Seth Green, Jason Statham, and Mos Def (and a couple of lackluster leads), this is the film that inspired that one, although really the only similarities are that both movies feature heists that involve using Mini Coopersthe getaway vehicles.

This version is a fun piece of British propaganda and is very heavy on the "us vs. them" bit. Michael Caine starsCharlie Croker, a ne'er do well who is just getting out of prison and is already involved in setting up his next scheme, the hi-jacking of $4 million in gold from Turin, Italy. Charlie's partially doing it for the money and partly for revenge for the mafia killing one of his friends, who thought up the daring heist in the first place. Unlike the re-make, none of Charlie's cohorts are anything more than filler; even Benny Hilla computer expert (!!!) is given very little to do. Only Noel Coward stands outa prison kingpin named Mr. Bridger; actually, he's the best part of the film, an oddball inmate whom even the guards address respectfully, and who has an odd fetish for Queen Elizabeth II (he even has his own butler in jail). Bridger is delightfully funny, in that quirky offbeat English sort of way, and he steals the show. Caine himself is good, full of high spirits, but in a way he comes off like sort of a straight Austin Powers, played too far but not really realizing he's almost a joke.

The heist is again complicated and features snarling up traffic, only this time instead of Ed Norton the villain is the mafia, who is dead-set against seeing the English steal their gold. Once again the highly enjoyable and lengthy chase scenes are terrifically well staged (including a jump across buildings that you know they actually did live), and the Mini Coopers create all sorts of mayhem on their escape from the scene of the crime. The movie is light-hearted and fun, moreso than its remake (though again, it isn't weighted down with Walberg and Theron), but its Monty Python and the Holy Grail-esquire non-ending brings the movie to a crashing halt; you can see the writers pen themselves into a corner and then, rather than find a way out, just give up, walk out of the room, and roll the credits, possibly in an attempt to be modern or absurd, but it really, really doesn't work. Which is a shame, because otherwise the movie is a great bit of oddball fun, certainly worth a look.

In 2008, a contest was held to find a solution, and the winning entry was: Break and remove two large side windows just aft of the pivot point and let the glass fall outside to lose its weight. Break two windows over the two front axles; keep the broken glass on board to keep its weight for balance. Let a man out on a rope through the front broken windows (not to rest his weight on the ground) and he deflates all the bus's front tyres, to reduce the bus's rocking movement about its pivot point. Drain the fuel tank, which was aft of the pivot point; that changes the balance enough to let a man get out and gather heavy rocks to load the front of the bus. Unload the bus. Wait until a suitable vehicle passes on the road, and hijack it and carry the gold away in it.

It has been pointed out that the petrol tank of that model of bus is at the back, so allowing the engine to run in neutral will burn the petrol off, reducing the weight on the back part and rebalancing the bus back on the road. Yes, but it was not made, mainly because the film flopped in the United States. According to a "Making Of" documentary, in the sequel, helicopters would save the bus seen on the cliff at the end of the first film. The grateful gang would soon discover that it is the Mafia that has saved them, and the sequel would have been about stealing the gold bullion back from them. In interviews in 2003 and 2008, Michael Caine revealed that the ending would have had Croker "crawl up, switch on the engine and stay there for four hours until all the petrol runs out… The van bounces back up so we can all get out, but then the gold goes over." The bus containing the gold would crash at the bottom of the hill where the Mafia would pick it up. The sequel would then have Croker and his men trying to get it back. A novel showing a possible sequel has just been published which starts with a bus balanced on the edge of a cliff. Don't Fear The Reaper is written by Garry Kay and is available online from Lulu.com.

An alternative source gives a sequel involving the British's eternal enemy - The French. The gold falls down the mountain and is recovered by French gangsters. Instead of mini coopers, there would be battles between Croker's team and the French involving hovercrafts (Britain's other great cool vehicle of the 60s)
